Boat Shopping 101- Boat Prices and Other Expenses
One of the biggest factors in buying a boat will be the cost. That is, of course, unless you have access to unlimited funds and can buy anything regardless of cost. For the other 98% of the world, the price of boats will be a major influence on your purchase. If you're reading this, you're probably looking for more information how much boats cost. Unfortunately, like everything, boat prices are going to vary, based on the size, model, and features of any boats that you consider buying. Therefore, getting a pre-approved loan amount and setting a budget for what you can afford FIRST might work better than checking prices.
If you set up a budget and know how much you have to spend, you'll be able to narrow down your options better, too. You won't be wandering around the boat dealership, falling in love with the $200,000 boat when you can really only afford the $125,000 boat. You'll be able to eliminate options before you even begin your shopping, to make the whole process easier on you. While it might seem like more fun to wander aimlessly around a dealership picking and choosing between options, you're liable to get in over your head that way. If you're not definite about what you want and what you can afford, or seem even the slightest bit wishy-washy to a salesperson, they'll do everything they can to talk you into the biggest, fanciest boat that they have, because that's their job.
Boats can cost as little or as much as you want them to. It will depend on what type, size, and brand of boat you choose, as well as whether you buy new or used. Private sellers sometimes offer better deals on their boats, because they're not a dealership and aren't looking to make a huge profit off of your business. However, you should make sure that you have the boat inspected by someone who knows them to make sure that everything is in working order, before you buy a boat from an individual seller.
All in all, knowing how much you can afford to spend is much more than knowing how much boats cost. It is far better to buy based on your budget than it is to buy based on what's out there. You should also consider the other expenses of boat ownership, though, so that you can truly get the most from your boat purchase. After all, what good does it do to purchase a new boat if you can't afford the upkeep, maintenance, and accessories that you will need to go along with it? There is a lot to be said for merely taking the time to be an informed consumer. It can make your boat shopping experience that much more pleasurable.
