When it comes to owning a boat, there are far more advantages to it than there are disadvantages. Boats aren't cheap, so you need to be sure that you will use one enough to warrant buying one before you get in over your head. You should also set a budget for your boat, and make sure that you have a fund set up in the event that you need repairs, service, or other maintenance on your boat. Transporting and docking a boat can be expensive, but that all depends on where you live and where you use your boat. If you have access to a lake with a free boat ramp, for example, or a lake house with its own private dock, you won't have to worry about the fees that can come from docking in a marina. Also, you can buy a solid used trailer that fits your boat to transport it when you need to, and if you need to.
All in all, boat ownership can bring a new dimension of enjoyment to your life. There are things that you will need to learn and be aware of in order to make the most of your boating experience, but there really isn't any huge disadvantage to owning a boat that makes it a bad idea.
